About Our Setting

The Woodland Preschool was founded in 1979 to serve the families of Downley by providing a welcoming, safe and happy place for their children to play. It grew from strength to strength and continues to the present day as a popular community pre-school.

Our aim is to ensure that when children leave us to go to school, they are happy, confident, sociable individuals, eager to continue the learning process.

Woodlands is a registered charity (reg charity no 1181991), which is financed through a combination of government funding and our own fundraising efforts.

We meet at the Guide and Scout Centre and use all the accommodation available. The setting provides what Ofsted described as an ‘exciting and inspirational area with a fantastic wildlife garden where children can develop their imaginative play’.

The outdoor area includes a summer house, climbing frame with slide and fireman’s pole, wooden stepping stones, a mud kitchen and is often home to dens and castles of a more home-made variety.

‘Without Woodlands my kids wouldn’t have been able to reach where they are now. Woodlands is an excellent place for kids to have fun.’
